In order to view PDF files you need Acrobat Reader which is a free download from the Adobe site - click on the "get adobe reader logo" above and follow the installation instrucions. Once you have downloaded and installed Reader on your system you can configure your browser to either (1)open acrobat reader in your browser window (as a plug-in) or (2) link to Acrobat Reader (as a Helper application).Using Acrobat Reader as a helper application allows you the option of opening the PDF file in Acrobat Reader (for immediate viewing) or to save it on your hard drive.
In my experience it is helpful to remove the plug-in (nppdf32.dll) as this causes problems with Netscape browsers (when using Reader as a Helper Application). I have removed it completely from my system (as I use more than one browser). Do this as follows- browse to the Netscape plug-in folder and find nppdf32.dll. Copy it to a floppy in case you ever want to use it in the future. Do exactly the same if you have Internet Explorer. Also remove the plug-in from Acrobat Reader (found in the Reader plug-ins folder). After you have removed the plug-in open the Acrobat Reader programe and choose >Edit > Preferences > Options
Make sure you deselect the "Display PDF in Browser" checkbox.
Open the Netscape browser and choose >Edit > Preferences > Helper Applications. The following dialouge box appears:
Fill in the dialog-box as above: [type] Portable Document Format [extension] PDF [Mime type] application/pdf.
For the application to use box click on the choose button and find the Adobe Folder - inside you will find the subfolder Reader, and inside this the file AcroRd32. This is the exe file for Reader and should have a PDF icon. Select this file and click open. Confirm this by clicking O.K. Restart your Netscape browser.
