INDEX
Issue no. 9
Jan-March
2007
Our ninth issue focuses on the patriarchal narratives. Three of the articles form a trilogy centred on the sister-wife motif. The first of these, “The Wells of salvation”, examines the theology of water conflict in Genesis 26 (straight after the last sister-wife narrative concerning Isaac). The second on the “Song of Songs”, examines the Sitz im Leben of Canticles and the use of the sister-wife motif in the love poem. The third article, “The sister-wife motif in the patriarchal narratives” analyses the wider implications for "Heilsgeschicte". The fourth and fifth articles are based on Jacob;“Wrestling with God” proposes that Jacob is a paradigm for the nation of Israel and “Beth-el” discusses the purpose of the various forms of repetition in Genesis 27-36. Lastly, we review ‘SHOW THEM NO MERCY’ a book that presents four different views on God and Canaanite genocide. This is a book in the Zondervan counterpoints series (ed., Stanley N. Gundry, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 2003). Discussions presented by: C.S. Cowles, Eugene H. Merrill, Daniel L. Gard, Tremper Longman III.
